Thundereggs find their origin in lava flows from volcanic eruptions. As the lava then cooled, lava shells formed around gas bubbles. After these shells were cooled, cracks formed and the gases were able to escape. Silicate liquids enriched with trace elements and impurities penetrated the cavities. The enrichments sealed the cracks and formed the magical Thundereggs.

Thunderegg is an American name for these stones, which have several legends surrounding them. To see the true beauty of Thundereggs, they must be processed: halved and polished to reveal the inner core, or polished on the outside.
