Background: Xu Hantang, born in Yixing, Jiangsu Province on May 11, 1932, is a master of Chinese arts and crafts. He won the "Lifetime Achievement Award of Chinese Arts and Crafts" and is the only person in the purple clay industry in China to win this award.
After graduation from junior high school in 1948, he studied martial arts with his parents. In 1952, he learned from Gu Jingzhou, a contemporary purple clay magnate, and became Gu Jingzhou's first disciple. In 1972, Xu Hantang and his younger brother Xu Xiutang designed a set of "fifteen silver inlaid coffee sets", which were collected by the National Palace Museum of China. In 2014, the education foundation named after Xu Hantang donated 10 million yuan was officially established. In November 2017, the authorization ceremony for the production of the purple clay tea ware "Palace Pot" designed by Ji Hansheng was held in Yixing Fanjia Pot Shop. Fan Xiuhong, the grandson of Fan Dasheng, became the sole authorizer for the production of the "Palace Pot". Xu Hantang, a Chinese arts and crafts master, took the lead in the production art.
