I am offering this Olympia Precision Models HO scale brass articulated 4-8-8-4 Big Boy steam locomotive in a custom paint and weathered.  No original box or paperwork, so I cannot be sure exactly what it is a model of specifically.  It is marked OLYMPIA JAPAN.  Olympia operated from 1960 – 1975.  I am not an expert and I know looking at pictures online can sometimes be deceiving; however, I think this model could be an early 1960’s GEM Models (operated 1958 – 1982) import catalogued as RS-102 of which only 54 were made.

Regardless, HO scale brass big Boys are highly desirable.  This model has been custom painted and weathered, also desirable.  It does look weathered, some of which is probably dust/dirt.  The wheels show a lot of rail time, so someone ran it a lot.  Besides the usual few minor paint dings, I have tried to identify flaws that I have noticed:

-      Most obvious is the loose tender wheel set with the mounting “bracket” broke off/missing (see PIC close-ups).

-      The broken railing at the front right side (see PIC close-up)

-      The rear brake on the left side of the front set of 8 drivers looks missing.  Actually it is mounted upside down (see PIC close-up)

-      On the right front side along the silver colored part of the boiler and under the walkway, the large tube/pipe structure is not connected to the boiler (see PIC close-ups).  The mounting screw is there, so I am guessing that the bracket slipped off the screw head.

The loco does not run on track – no power.  It does not run when I touch DC power leads directly to the wheels and/or rear engine coupler.  The motor does run F&R when I touch leads to the motor contacts.  The rear set of 8 drivers turned with the motor; however, the front set did not.  I took 2 pictures of the gearbox between the 2 sets of 8; but, I’m not sure if you can tell what you are looking at.

There are probably other minor issues, so ask questions and please check the pictures.

I can email additional pictures if necessary.  Please be specific about what you want to see.  PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING/BIDDING.
