This is among a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare December 11th, 1941 program (playbill) from the three-night, Pre-Broadway engagement of the FRED THOMPSON, DAWN POWELL, VERNON DUKE and JOHN LaTOUCHE musical comedy "THE LADY COMES ACROSS" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The production would open January 9th, 1942 at New York's 44th Street Theatre and close January 10th, 1942 after only three performances.) ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "I'd Like To Talk About the Weather", "Prairie Belle", "Tango", "Upsala" and "What Every Young Man Should Know" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of the start of a seam split below the bottom staple, two tiny edge chips to the back cover, slight discoloration and minor edge wear, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
