C1016 NPN VINTAGE uELECTRONICS TRANSISTORS

Manufactured in Japan circa 1975 by renown vintage semiconductor company Micro Electronics (uE) as the part number C1016, these are a general purpose early vintage silicon NPN transistor, with heavily gold plated leads.

These transistors are now very highly regarded by Guitar pedal and effect manufacturers as being as close to germanium 'noise' that a silicon transistor can get.

The unusual retro dome top transistor package is synonymous with Micro Electronics.

They were factory gain sorted into 5 gain bands, each denoted by a coloured dot on the top of the package. We have measured 10 transistors of each group on a period vintage transistor analyser, and the results are:

Red is the lowest gain band.
Average gain is 121.2, with the 10 results been: 118,120,121,120,120,128,120,130,120,115.

Green is second lowest gain band.
Average gain is 144.3, with the 10 results been:
144,144,141,139,141,149,145,145,139,156.

Orange is the middle gain band.
Average gain is 179.1, with the 10 results been:
179,173,181,179,180,179,182,180,180,178.

White is the second highest gain band.
Average gain is 201.0, with the 10 results been:
201, 200, 203, 201, 200, 201,199, 202, 203, 200.

Yellow is the highest gain band.
Average gain is 250.4, with the 10 results been:
251, 250, 251, 258, 252, 250, 254, 244, 245, 249.
