NOTES

An early edition of Abraham Rees' expanded version of Chambers' Cyclopaedia. Chambers' work, initially released in two volumes in 1728, was one of the earliest general encyclopaedias in the english language. A failed attempt at producing a French translation of the became the genesis for Diderot and d'Alembert's Encyclopedie in the late 1740s. The set on offer here is an early edition of Abraham Ree's greatly expanded version, which was released in installments beginning in 1778.
