However, Soviet lenses, even new ones, come with some cosmetic flaws, like tiny gas bubbles in a lens glass or internal specks of dust. These defects do not affect the quality of the lens or image and a lot of Soviet lenses have excellent quality and are really affordable.

HELIOS-44-2 2/58 has a diaphragm preset ring. With it, you can select one of the fixed values: F / 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16. Unlike the preset ring, the diaphragm setting ring rotates smoothly and you can use it to set any intermediate value. The smooth motion of the aperture ring is useful when shooting video. The diaphragm consists of 8 petals that form a hole in the form of regular polyhedra.
