Description: This plate originates from: 'Tooneel des oorlogs, opgerecht in de Vereenigde Nederland; door de wapenen van de Koningen van Vrankryk en Engeland, Keulsche en Munstersche bisschoppen : tegen de Staten der Vereenigde Nederlanden, en hare geallieerden : nevens de aanmerkwaardigste saken, door de geheele werelt, en voornamelijk in Europa voorgevallen, zedert het jaar 1669, alwaar de historie van L. van Aitzma eyndigt, tot den tegenwoordigen tijt : naaukeurig en waarachtig, uyt autentique schriften en sekere raporten, t' samen-gestelt.', by Lambert van den Bosch, published by Jacob van Meurs and Johannes van Someren, Amsterdam 1675. A very detailed and accurate account of the war between the Dutch Republic and France, and other nations.

Artists and Engravers: Author: Lambert van den Bosch / van Bos / Sylvius (Dutch 1610-1698). Several plates in this work by or after Romeyn de Hooghe. Romeyn de Hooghe (Dutch 1645-1708) was an important and prolific late Baroque engraver and caricaturist. De Hooghe was skilled as an etcher, draughtsman, painter, sculptor and medalist. He is best known for political caricatures of Louis XIV and propagandistic prints supporting William of Orange. During his career, de Hooghe produced over 3500 prints. He also illustrated books, and his illustrations can be found in some of the most important texts of his period. Portraits engraved by Christiaan Hagen / van der Hagen / Hagens (Bremen c. 1635-after 1687, possibly 1707). Plans views engraved by unknown engraver.

Subject: Plate : This plate shows a plan of the fortified city of Utrecht and plans of the fortresses of Nieuwersluis, Wijk bij Duurstede, Amersfoort, Montfoort, Kleine Wierik, Pain and Vin, Sterreschans in The Netherlands.

Condition: Excellent. General age related toning. Small tear in bottom margin not affecting image.

Size (in cm): The overall size is ca. 34 x 22 cm. The image size is ca. 29.5 x 17.5 cm.
Size (in inch): The overall size is ca. 13.4 x 8.7 inch. The image size is ca. 11.6 x 6.9 inch.
