Eighteenth Century Civilian Sword with Scabbard

Eighteenth Century Civilian Sword with Scabbard

This civil weapon was developed during the baroque period. It gradually replaced the rapier from the mid-17th century onwards, as there was a growing need for lighter and less bulky weapons. This is due to increased population growth and the associated lack of space during this period. The sword was carried mainly by members of the upper social class.

The sword has an EN45 spring steel blade of triangular cross-section, which is not sharpened. The guard and curved handguard are made of brass, with a wooden handle, which is wrapped with brass wire.

The sword scabbard is made of leather-covered wood, with brass hardware and support rings and a hook for attaching the sword scabbard to a belt.
