Detailed breakdown of the use steps of the gold pan

Step one: Wash out big rocks and moss

1. Your basin is full, but 3/4 of it is actually gravel. Submerge it in the water so that it is under the surface of the water.

2. Shake the gold pan vigorously, shaking it back and forth from side to side. Don't shake it too strongly, otherwise the contents of the pot will be spilled.

3. Stop shaking the gold pan, and start holding it in a gentle circular motion. The gravel will start to rotate in the basin at this time. Doing so will wash or dissolve most of the dust and soil from the pot. Use your fingers to flip the top roots and moss-this will ensure that any soil that may contain gold is in the pot.

4. Pick out big rocks. Make sure they have been washed (these steps should be followed, repeat these steps until all the large stones have been removed and the heavier concentrates (such as gold and sand) have settled to the bottom.

Step two: Wash out light grit

1. Place your basin in the water and make sure it is completely submerged. Tilt the basin slightly away from you so that it looks like you are trying to catch the current water.

2. Swirl the basin from side to side. Make a slight forward tossing motion, as if you are baking a pancake (but not actually turning the contents of the pot). Be cautious but use enough strength to move the surface of the basin to allow lighter gravel to fall from the edge of the basin.

3. Put the basin flat, put it in the water and shake it back and forth. Shaking the pot flatly will deposit the golden beans on the bottom of the pot, while lighter substances will float above.

4. Repeat this process several times. When you finish this part of the gold panning process, there should be only about two cups of heavy objects left in your basin, and there should not be any stones or pebbles at this time. The remaining material is heavy. They are composed of black sand, or "concentrates". If you are lucky, it should be gold.

Step three: Wash out the black sand

1. Take the basin out of the water. Make sure there is about an inch of water left in the basin. Water is necessary because you will continue to sift the sand out of the golden bell after taking the basin out of the water.

2. Tilt the basin slightly towards you. Hold the basin and swirl it slowly around in a circle. This will allow you to check if there are any large gold nuggets or pieces of gold by hand to pick them out.

3. Submerge the basin into the water again. Repeat the third step (alternately rotate the basin back and forth and shake it horizontally). Be very careful in this step-if you shake too hard, you may lose part of the gold.

4. If you use a magnet with a plastic basin. Remove the basin from the water, the less water left in the basin, the better. Place a magnet at the bottom of the basin and slowly move the magnet around the basin. Black sand is magnetic, and it will be attracted to the magnet. This step will quickly separate the black sand from the gold.

5. Pour the remaining black sand and gold into the bottle. Once you have sifted as much black sand out of the gold as possible, put the mixture in a bottle. The safe method is to put the contents of the basin into the bottle and put a funnel at the mouth of the bottle. Pour the contents of the basin from the funnel into the bottle.
