William Cowper (26 November 1731 – 25 April 1800) was an English poet and Anglican hymn writer. One of the most popular poets of his time, Cowper changed the direction of 18th-century nature poetry by writing of everyday life and scenes of the English countryside. In many ways, he was one of the forerunners of Romantic poetry.

**Bound in a period brown morocco binding. With gilt stamped school arms to the front board, tooled borders, raised bands to the spine with gilt titles. All page edges in gilt. Pages with red borders.

Condition: Please see photographs as part of condition report: Bound in a period Morocco binding. Holding firm, extremities a little rubbed. Gilt still bright to the front board and spine. Large bookplate to the front pastedown, Text block firm, Spots of foxing to the half title, frontispiece and tissue guard. Pages mostly clean with occasional spotting.
