Lemonheads were named and formulated in 1962 by Ferrara Pan Candy Company using the same cold panned process as the company's Red Hots. Since then the candy has become so popular that currently Ferrara Pan produces approximately 500 million Lemonheads per year. Due to the success of the Lemonheads, Ferrara Pan Candy Company added flavors to create a "Headline" assortment which include, the original Lemonhead, Grapehead, Orangehead, Applehead and Cherryhead.
