This is a rare single-page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting the Sixteenth Series of the "ZIEGFELD MIDNIGHT FROLIC" at the Ziegfeld Danse de Follies atop the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. (The Sixteenth Series opened November 17th, 1921 and played 123 performances.) ..... The "ZIEGFELD MIDNIGHT FROLIC" was a late-night series that Florenz Ziegfeld staged in the New Amsterdam's intimate rooftop theater, "Danse de Follies". For years he had watched his audiences exit the theater after his "Follies" performance, only to spend more money at one of the many nightclubs in New York City and the "Midnight Frolic" was his way of keeping the higher end customers (and their money) to himself. It featured a glass runway that let the chorus girls parade over the audiences heads, wearing tasteful ankle-length linen bloomers. A genuine hit, Ziegfeld produced a fully revised edition each year beginning in 1915, but Prohibition and changes in popular taste kept attendance down and made 1921 the last regular year for the "Frolic". Ziegfeld would stage one further edition in 1928. (Wikipedia) ..... This edition of the "ZIEGFELD MIDNIGHT FROLIC" featured WILL ROGERS, LEON ERROL, CARLOS and INEZ, DOROTHY CLARK, GLORIA FOY, ALEXANDER GRAY, KITTY KELLY, LUCILLE LAYTON, CARL RANDALL, COLETTA RYAN, the SHAW SISTERS, FLOURNOY MILLER and AUBREY LYLES, MURIEL STRYKER, MAX FISHER'S DANCE ORCHESTRA and DABNEY'S SYNCOPATED ORCHESTRA ..... CREDITS: Music and Lyrics by GENE BUCK and DAVE STAMPER; Orchestra conducted by GUS SALTZER; Staged by LEON ERROL; Produced by FLORENZ ZIEGFELD, Jr. .....
