Front Focal Plane Scopes:
1. A first focal plane scope means that the reticle is placed in front of the magnification lens. As a result, the scope’s reticle size changes as you shift through magnification.
2. The reticle is superimposed over the image in the scope on the same plane, so as you zoom in or out, the reticle larger or smaller, maintaining the same size in relation to your target.
3. Military and tactical-type shooters often rely on hash reticle hash marks to compensate for wind drift, and for on-the-fly minor variances in bullet impact above or below expected point of impact.
4. In a first focal plane scope, the hash marks on the reticle crosswire are the same predictable value no matter what magnification the scope is set on. Whether you are zoomed way in on a very small target, or zoomed way out so as to maximize our field of view when engaging multiple or moving targets, .2-MIL hash marks are always .2 MILs. If you need to hold for 6 MILs of wind drift, just use the appropriate hash mark and squeeze the trigger.
5. Proponents of first focal plane designs are vociferous in proclaiming the virtues of their favorite. If you're a military sniper, or a “tactard” plinker, or a PRS competitive shooter, front focal plane scopes are best.
6. That's it for the advantage of first focal plane reticles, folks. It's a very simple, yet critical characteristic.
Using the Riflescope:
1. Reticle Focus Adjustment
- Your scope uses a fast-focus eyepiece designed to quickly and easily adjust the focus on the scope’s reticle. To adjust the reticle focus:
1). Look through the scope at a blank white wall or at the sky.
2). Turn focus knob fully counterclockwise.
3). Turn the eyepiece focus knob inward until the reticle image is as crisp as possible.
2. Magnification Adjustment
- The magnification adjustment is used to change the magnification level, or “power” of the riflescope-adjusting from low to high magnification depending on your preference.
1). Rotate the indicator bar to the desired magnification.
3. Turret Adjustments
- Each adjustment or “click” moves the point of impact either 1/4 MOA or .10 MRAD.
- 1/4 MOA closely corresponds to 1/4” at 100 yards, or 3 cm at 100 m;
- .10 MRAD is equal to .36” at 100 yards, or 1 cm at 100 m.
1). Following the directional arrows, turn the dials in the direction you wish the point of impact to go.
4. Parallax Adjustment
- Your scope has an adjustable objective lens.
- This adjustment dial is marked with approximate yardages and should be matched to the target’s distance.
- Final focus setting should be checked by moving your head back and forth while looking through the scope for any shift of the reticle on the target (parallax).
- If you observe shift, the dial should be adjusted slightly until removed. Once correctly set for your target's distance, errors due to parallax will be eliminated.
