    • Front: Realizing that Denethor (John Noble) is incapable of leading his war-threatened people, Gandalf (Ian McKellen) has Pippin (Billy Boyd) light the Minas Tirith beacon without Denethor's permission. The signal is received by Aragon (Viggo Mortensen), who rallies the forces of Rohan to Minas Tirith's aid. Back: Make-up artists transform human feet into those of a Hobbit. The Hobbit feet were short-lived, and had to be constantly re-applied and re-created throughout the many long months of filming.
