US Franklin Silver + Kennedy Half Dollar Coin Leather BELT - 13 coins + tip USED

One Leather Belt with 12 U.S. Silver Half Dollar Franklin Coins and 1 Kennedy Bicentennial Half Dollar (aka 50¢ piece, four bits) as Conchos with an added silver-tongue tip.

Inlaid Conchos Style on a Western Style Belt.

The silver tip is hallmarked and says STERLING MEXICO. The house head is a gold color.

The Coins are US Mint made & hand modified into Conchos and the Leather Belt is handmade.

The belt has two stamped letters (initials) EH

There's a funny pun about real coin belts When wearing the belt, it's circulated. When not wearing the belt, it's uncirculated.

The belt is brown with black lacing.

The coins are authentic. There were reproductions of these belts made using fake coins.

The traditional belt size varies on the type of buckle used and whether or not holes need to be added. With a western style belt buckle hooked into the hole closest to the concho coins I would call it a size 38; roughly 38 to 41. The buckle I used was about 2½ inches from metal hinged loop to the fastener pin. A buckle is not included.

The belt measures approximately 41½ to 42 inches long by 1.7 inches (44 mm) wide by ¼ inch (5-7 mm) thick.

The belt tongue, the narrow part where the holes are, is about 1½ inches (37 mm) wide. Where it folds to hold the buckle is approximately 1.3+ inches (32-35 mm) wide.

The silver tip is 1 1/3 inches (35 mm) wide by just under 1½ (38 mm) tall and about ¼ thick.

There are 5 holes to catch the buckle hook. Four holes are pre-made and the 4ith hole in between the pre-mades is manual made. The first hole is 3½ inches from the tip. The holes are roughly one inch apart.

CONDITION: PREVIOUSLY USED COINS & BELT WORN - circulated - belt is misshapen from wear.

Scratches are common.

Coins were hand polished with a blue silver polishing cloth.

Part of the process involved spot heating the coins to attach rivets to make them inlaid.

This belt and others like it were handmade. Redd's Leather Shop of Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California produced the belt. My Father and I acquired the coins and did the coin implants. We also made special leather working tools. Belts were sold at Knott's Berry Farm, coin dealers, and other jewelry stores throughout Southern California, Arizona, & New Mexico. We made them from about 1974 to about 1982. Some belts were pre-made and others were custom made with specific colors, design, leatherworking, and coin choices. Lots of hours of work went into the making of each belt. I am one of the 3 original makers.

Using 1976 as an estimate of when the belt was made would make it approximately 47 years old. Of course most of the coins are much older.

All of the coins are the obverse side! You can not turn coins to see the other side. There are no Liberty Bell cracks showing on the belt.
