In 2009 the US Mint produced 6 more reverse designs, one for each of 6 territories. This brought the total main reverse designs to 56.
  • The Obverse-side image is a portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan based on the work of Jean Antoine Houdon, a French neoclassical sculptor born March 25, 1741 and died July 15, 1828. This design came about in 1932 for the bicentennial celebration of the birth of George Washington. The Obverse design was by John Flanagan (1865–1952). His initials are under or at the bottom of the neck. Modern modifications and enhancements by William Cousins to accomdate the changing reverse images.
  • The Obverse-side text inscriptions: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA LIBERTY IN GOD WE TRUST QUARTER DOLLAR JF
  • Year moved to the reverse.
  • George Washington (February 22, 1732 – December 14, 1799) was the first president of the USA (POTUS) from 1789 to 1797. His birth date in the old style calendar was February 11, 1731 which changed in 1752 and also when the New Year moved from March 25th to January 1st.
  • E PLURIBUS UNUM translates from Latin roughly to: Out of many, one - which was the common motto from the USA seal from the late 1700's until 1956 when the motto officially became In God We Trust. This coin bears both sayings.
