  • Original Reverse-side (back) images: Bluenose sailing vessel, Circle of Denticles (dots, beads)
  • Original Reverse-side Designer/Artist: Emanuel Otto Hahn, RCA, (1881-1957)
  • Reverse-side inscription: CANADA 10 CENTS (year)
  • Original Obverse-side (front) images: Effigy of the Queen of Canada, Elizabeth II (Tiara Design), Circle of Denticles (dots, beads)
  • Obverse-side inscription: ELIZABETH II D.G. REGINA

  • Bluenose was a fishing & racing gaff rig schooner ship from Nova Scotia. The ships nickname was Queen of the North Atlantic. She was wrecked in 1946 and in 1963 a replica was built, Bluenose II. This ship has appeared on postage stamps and other denomination coins as well. In 1971 Bluenose II was sold to the Canadian Government for 10 dimes!
  • The 10-cent piece is also known as: a dime, ten-cents, ten-cent piece, 1/10th of a dollar, $0.10, 10¢, disme (from French disme meaning one-tenth).
