RUFFED GROUSE on the cover!

Winchester, Western, and Remington full-page color (shotshell) ads!

44 pages (including covers)

 "Down to the Sea" by T.O. Sanders, a middle-westerner who goes to Wellfleet, Cape Cod to fish. After nine days and a journey of a thousand miles (one way), it was worth it!

"Resolved: Ladies Shouldn't!" by James H. East;
He stirs up trouble in last month's issue and here are some responses...After six columns, he decides they should come along (if they even want to) - for partly selfish reasons though - for the cooking, seeing her excitement while watching her rod bend, etc., but one letter sensibly says..."why won't fishing trips brighten a woman's spirit and encourage her just as with a man?"

Next,  prairie chickens;
"A Lesson in Field Etiquette" by Glenn G. Reed - "A man can stand a lot of kidding about his gun, his personal appearance or even his wife if he's got one, which I ain't, but mention his dog in slurring terms, especially if it's a dog like Rose who is pretty near full blood, and it gets under your skin." Don't under-estimate the locals in North Dakota...

and ducks;
"Wings in the Storm" by Romain Young -  Tule Lake, Cherry County, Nebraska - sand hills, shallow prairie lakes and sloughs. Oh, and acres of flocks race by in the teeth of a norther.

These guys were tough!;
 "On the Twilight Frontier"
 by E.M. Hay  - trapping in the extreme cold of the far north; nine hours a day on snowshoes, "to knowingly tackle an almost superhuman task and be confronted suddenly with an additional and insuperable difficulty". More promised next month...

 'Game Restoration "Sow That You May Reap"' - local game management tips, and a look at rearing ponds.

"SHOOTING" - "Which Hunting Rifle? - by  E.C. Crossman;
"first decide on the cartridge, picking the rifle's easy".

Everett M. Sweeney - Twin Falls, Idaho attorney and former Michigan football star - does a story on "Running In" shotgun barrels.

Then E.C.C. goes on with about a dozen more; "Parlor Target Practice" and "Bobcat Troubles" are a couple good ones.

 His idea of a good time is taking a gun out for testing "with the deliberate and calculated intent of shooting it until making it quit".

No alcohol, and only one tobacco ad - mostly guns and camping equipment in this one (it is November).

In the "Skeet Department"; "Post Mortems on the Southern-Lordship Shoot" - results from events around the country.

"CAMPING" BY DILLON WALLACE - The Adikey; an Eskimo garmet (when made of caribou skin; a "kulutuk", when made of seal skin; a "netsek") that consists of an outer, snow-shedding layer and an inner one of wool.... Dillon mentions the "parka" - seen in Alaska - as white man's "improvement" - a design which greatly detracts from it's warmth.

   "FISHING" BY RAY BERGMAN - High Spots of the Season"; he goes back over his "notes" from 1930. Ray catches a lot of trout on flies around the New England states - he names names of the flies used - many designed by himself...then a few paragraphs of various bass fishing.

"DOGS" - The Grouse and the Woodcock Dog - by Dr. James S. Goodwin; he defines a good one...
