This tree is drought tolerant but will produce more fruit if watered regularly. It will easily adapt to most soil conditions and enjoys full sunlight. Guava trees love organic fertilizer and will use it to grow even quicker and fruit even heavier.

 

Why are guava seeds soaked before planting?

Breaking seed dormancy is the first stage in developing guava from seed. There are two ways to accomplish this. Either boil the seeds for five minutes in a saucepan of water, or let them soak in water for two weeks before planting. These two make it possible for the seed coat to soften and speed germination.

 

Guava Germination:

1) Scarify by Boiling the seeds for five minutes prior to planting them to soften the tough outside and encourage germination rates.

2) Cover the seed  with just a small amount of seed -starter mix. Use a heated propagator under keep the soil around 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and keep it moist by misting it whenever the top of the soil surface feels dry.

3) As with any Tropical or Exotic, patience is need as some will germinate in two weeks, while others could take over eight weeks. Definitely more than worth the wait!
