"Belorusska" is nearly a 7" cultural cloth doll that was manufactured in the Soviet Union after 1922.  She bears the "Made in Soviet Union 8089 Belorusska" label on her undergarment.  Her broad stockinet face has been painted in simple colors.  Her eyes are blue, and her floss hair is auburn beneath its kerchief.  Belorusska's body is constructed from stuffed cloth over wire armature, so she can somewhat pose.  Her arms move up and down!  She is authentically dressed in provincial Russian costuming, and still wears her lapti or woven birchbark sandals.  Belorusska sustains overall discoloration, wear, and soil to her face, hands (wear to fabric), and costume (more notably her face has browned, and her nose has become threadbare ) from age and storage.  She smells dusty, and may require cleaning. What a remarkable and early character doll reflecting Russian culture Belorusska Girl is!  She may have been sold originally by Kimport.

Additional Note: This doll was deaccessioned from the Boston Children's Museum in Massachusetts, and wear the inventory number label on the underside of her coat.
