British Parliament 1925 Vintage Lithograph

A Vintage Ship Print (1958)

Pl. 45 -- Dutch galiot of 250 tons, 1841.

A galiot was a type of Dutch or German merchant ship of 20 to 400 tons (bm), similar to a ketch, with a rounded fore and aft like a fluyt.

This print is from a 1958 republishing of some of the most beautiful, finely-detailed,
line illustrations originally published in the 1882 François-Edmond Pâris work
"Souvenirs de marine. (ADMIRAL PARIS SOUVENIRS DE MARINE 1882).
See 2nd picture (Shown for reference only - NOT INCLUDED)

Vice-Admiral François-Edmond Pâris, born March 6, 1806 in Paris was a French naval officer who made significant contributions to naval engineering during the transition from sail to steam.

Promoted to vice-admiral in 1864, Pâris headed the navy's archives until 1871, when he retired from naval service and became director of the Musée national de la Marine (National Museum of the Navy), where he organized the collections and acquired new items. This work led to the publishing of what many maritime historians consider his seminal work, "Souvenirs de marine conservés."

I have a number of these reproduction prints originally published in the supplemental volumes of plans for this work, first published in 1882, titled "Souvenirs de Marine. Collection de plans ou dessins de navires et de bateaux anciens ou modernes existants ou disparus avec les éléments numériques nécessaores à leur construction." (A Record of Navy: Collection of plans or drawings of vessels and of boats ancient or modern, existing or disappeared, with the numerical elements necessary for their construction.) These prints from this series range from vessels of ancient empires to the Golden Age of Sail, and include many ships of indigenous peoples of Asia, Arabia and the Americas, to are an important research tool for readers ranging from maritime historians to model ship builders

The Fine Print

International buyers are responsible for all import fees and taxes.
Shipping costs:  My shipping costs are calculated on three factors - getting your item to you as quickly as possible, as cost effectively as possible, and as safely as possible.  I pride myself in providing optimal protection.  I use First Class or Priority Mail on most small items; Parcel Post on larger items; and Media Mail on books and magazines. You may request expedited shipment if you are willing to pay costs. P/H is combined on multiple prints mailed at the same time. Please make your purchases from my auctions or store. I will send a combined invoice reflecting your savings.
The Nature of Prints & Engravings: It was not until the 20th century that prints were commonly produced for the print itself. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources.
