Nylon washers are made from nylon 66 plastic. Washers are typically thin, disc-shaped plates with a hole through the middle. Nylon is exceptionally strong, even stronger than polyester. Nylon and polyester are both abrasion resistant and resistant to damage from most chemicals. Nylon is also resistant to oil. Also known as plain washers, their purpose is to distribute the fastener's load while reducing heat and friction during the tightening process. They can also be used as spacers, as is common in industrial and domestic applications. Flat plastic washers are also used to provide electrical insulation.
