Ukiyoe artist. He is also known as Issakurusai, Hotsuru II, and Yangshu. He first studied under Kuniyoshi and Kunisada I (Toyokuni III), but later became a student of Toyohara Kunishu. He is known for his three consecutive paintings of Meiji genre, but he also made paintings, and in 1882, he exhibited his works at a painting competition and received a certificate of commendation. In later years, he also created war paintings titled after the Sino-Japanese War, but throughout his life, he focused most on paintings of courtesans and courtly ladies, as well as beauties and customs from the inner palace.
