Direction To Use 15 Year Protection Direct to Metal Paint:

For the best results and 15-year protection, follow exactly what it says on the tin when preparing, painting and maintaining your metal.

Make sure the metal is clean, dry and free from dirt, dust and grease. Choose a dry day, above 10°C, when it’s not likely to rain.

Remove loose rust or paint with a wire brush or 120 grit sandpaper.

Wipe down with a damp cloth and remove all dirt.

If the paint is in good condition and isn’t flaking, lightly sand it with 240 grit sandpaper.

For paint that’s flaking, it needs removing. You can do this with some sandpaper or a wire brush.

Wipe with a damp cloth and let it dry.

Be careful preparing any surfaces that were painted before 1960, as they may be coated with lead paint.

How To Apply:

  1. Stir the paint thoroughly for 2 to 3 minutes before application, using a paintbrush or roller.
  2. Alternatively, for spray application, dilute the paint with approximately 10% water or as per your sprayer's specifications.
  3. Allow 2 to 4 hours of drying time between each coat.
  4. While 2 coats are typically sufficient, consider applying 3 coats for extra durability, especially on rusty metal surfaces.
  5. Impressively, the final coat will become touch dry in just 30 minutes.

Aftercare:

Take as much paint off your brush or roller as you can. Wash in warm soapy water.

Don’t empty leftover paint into drains or watercourses. Instead, contact your local authority, who may have particular ways to get rid of unused paint.

To keep your metal looking its best, check for imperfection every year. If you notice any cracks, blisters or scratches, sand off any loose bits and touch up the area with 2 coats of Direct to Metal Paint.
