STERLING SILVER VINTAGE CIGARATTE/CIGAR BOX - GORHAM.  [Collectors of Chicago history will have an extra interest here.] Outside dimensions are 5-1/4" x 3 -3/8" w x 1 -5/8 "h.  Weight is 7 oz. Cedar lining.  The six signatures will become more pronounced.as the silver over time acquires tarnish.  [Should have Taken a photo before polishing.] You have a choice here.  Display a shiny, unique, case or have the signatures more pronounced' letting is tarnish. There are two small indentations, one at the lower rear right side and one at the lower rear left side at bottom.  Almost identical.

The 6 signatures are ROBERT E HUNT, EDWARD FOSS WILSON, GEORGE A HUTCHINSON JR, JOHN J MARSHALL JR, George C POVSE and BLAISE A GUETTER (last 2 names hard to make out, possibly misspelled here.).

History:  A gift to my father sometime before 1950.  He died that year at age 40!    [3rd generation merchandising] Am familiar with two signatures that are the first two signature photographs above.  GEORAGE A HUTCHINSON JR.  The family is well-known for 'everything Chicago'.  Since his signature the most pronounced and at center, my guess is he had it made. Second, a letter [the last two photographs] dated May 15, 1940, from EDWARD FOSS WILSON, [meatpacking] to my father. Wilson is getting married. Nice verification here - the letter included with purchase.  [Dad did like scrapbooks.]   Have not researched the other signatures.  Later added, last photo, Robert Hunt memorabilia.  Have now included information found on George Hutchinsson.  [City planner]

The photos have purposely been taken at different sites & angles. Unwanted reflected light shows up a different way. Shadows are perceived many ways.

** Any FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT Fan will know the well published story of the saga behind 520 North East Avenue [that he designed].  Now known as the [Edward H.] Cheney House. [not the mansion nearby. ].  A very sad story.
