  • Text on box: The 1886 coin is characteristic of the Liberty Head dollar. It's reverse side features an eagle holding an olive branch in one talon, arrows in the other. First issued in 1794, the silver dollar was redesigned and even suspended several times during American history. Its coinage lapsed in 1873 when the gold dollar became the unit coin and again in 1904 when the bullion supply became exhausted. The Peace Dollar of 1935 marked the last issue of these famous coins.
  • This is a vintage item that is about 40 to 55 years old.
  • Interesting trivial side note. The world liberty is in the ladies headband. She is the personification of Lady/Miss Liberty/Columbia. The coin today among collecting circles is more commonly called the Morgan Dollar after engraver George Morgan (1845-1925).
