Notes of possible interest :-

Founded by Herbert Ingram “The Illustrated London News” was the worlds first illustrated weekly news magazine. It was first published on 14 May 1842 and continued as a weekly until 1971. From then it was less frequent  until it closed in  2003. By 1863 The Illustrated London News sold over 300000 copies a week. In the early 1870s Ingrams sons, William and Charles, took over as managing directors until 1900. Competition for the weekly illustrated news magazine market appeared in 1869 when “The Graphic” was first published (and became popular for its Franco-Prussian War coverage in 1870). In 1893 the I.L.N. established a sister publication,"The Sketch", which covered society events and lighter news and the company name changed to the Illustrated London News and Sketch Ltd.
