Notes of possible interest :-

The Adelphi Theatre, located in the Stand, is the fourth theatre built on the site with the first being in 1806. It was opened in 1930 as the “Royal Adelphi Theatre” with the previous building having been redesigned in the “Art Deco” Style. The name reverted back to the “Adelphi” in 1940  and, since 1987, it has been listed as a Grade II building for historical preservation. The Adelphi, and all its predecessors, have specialised in comedy and musical theatre. Many of Charles Dickens early works were adapted for the stage at the Adelphi as was Arthur Sullivan’s  first comic opera (“Cox and Box”) in 1867. Andrew Lloyd Webber purchased the theatre in 1993 and several of his musicals have been performed there.
