Love's Prisoner

By Norman Lindsay

1928 in an Edition of 550

With a Certificate of Authenticity

Printed on Barcham's Green watermarked handmade paper with the original scalloped right hand edge, signed in the plate by Norman Lindsay.  Blank on the reverse.

This beautiful photogravure was created from a pen drawing by Norman Lindsay created between 1908 and 1922. This photogravure was published in Satyrs and Sunlight in 1928 by The Fanfrolico Press. The edition was limited to 550 copies only.

The creation of this print was performed under the supervision of William Maxwell and printed by A. Alexander & Sons.

Photogravure is a photo-mechanical process whereby a copper plate is grained (adding a pattern to the plate) and then coated with a light-sensitive gelatin tissue which had been exposed to a film positive, and then etched, resulting in a high quality intaglio plate that can reproduce detailed continuous tones of a photograph.

The process was important in 19th-century photography, but by the 20th century was only used by some fine art photographers. By the mid-century it was almost extinct, but has seen a limited revival.  (Wiki)

The print measures 22.5cm x 29cm, and the image measures 15cm x 19cm.
