This original and charming object was made in Gien between 1866 and 1871. It borrows the shape of an old portable metal forest lamp. The door to the lantern is shown in trompe l'oeil and decorated with a cherub in the Italian Renaissance style. Cupid's arrows, ribbons and foliage surround the cherub, and the fluted lid is topped by a ring enclosed in four leaves.
