On the obverse side of the 5 oz Silver Mexican Libertad Coins is the image of Winged Victory. Inspired by the Roman goddess of victory, Victoria, her depiction on these coins reflects the appearance of Winged Victory at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column. The 22-foot statue on the top of the column holds a wreath crown in one hand and broken chains in the other hand.

The reverse face of 5 oz Silver Mexican Libertad Coin features the modern coat of arms for Mexico in the center. The seal includes a golden eagle battling a serpent from the arm of a cactus. It is surrounded by “Estados Unidos Mexicanos” and a wreath, with the outer design field featuring 10 historical versions of the same seal.
