Gregory Kern (pseudonym E.C. Tubb) – UK Mews Volumes 1-6 Captain Kennedy (#1 signed).

Contents:

5          Galaxy of the Lost [Cap Kennedy #1] (1973) - novel by E. C. Tubb [as by Gregory Kern]

"FREE ACTING TERRAN ENVOY - F.A.T.E.
Captain Kennedy, Earth's trouble shooter carries the Banner of Terran against the unknown sciences and alien psychologies of a thousand worlds. The crack in the cosmos that has to be sealed!"

5          Slave Ship from Sergan [Cap Kennedy #2] (1973) - novel by E. C. Tubb [as by Gregory Kern]

“To the reptilian mind - especially the intelligent type of planets like Sergan and Obrac - the lives of others were as nothing to the need for status. To the feline mind - especially to the clever advisor of the master of Sergan - the agonies of others were not only of no consequence, they could even be a source of joy. So when these two types of inhuman intelligences got together to defy the Terran orders against interplanetary kidnapping, space hijacking, and human slavery, it was definitely a case for a top-notch secret agent. Because Earth could not afford a showdown with more than one alien species at a time. The secret agent was Cap Kennedy, Free Acting Terran Envoy, and his pursuit of the SLAVE SHIP FROM SERGAN turned out to be one of his most dangerous single-handed adventures.”

5          Monster of Metelaze [Cap Kennedy #3] (1973) - novel by E. C. Tubb [as by Gregory Kern]

“Destiny awaits the world of Metelaze. Mighty will be our future. To us will come the races of the galaxy. To us will come the wealth of a universe. Too long have we rested beneath the Terran heel. Very soon now we shall strike off the chains of our oppressors. Metelaze shall be free!"
This sort of propaganda was always common among the demagogues of backward planets that had received help from Terra. But Metelaze was different. For there the promise held out was that secrets of the ancient pre-galactic science were becoming available, that an offer was being made that "could not be refused."
To Cap Kennedy fell the task of finding out. Were there really unknown scientific marvels available on Metelaze? Who was behind these offers of total power and absolute wealth? What, in fact, was the monster of Metelaze? And how could such a monster out of time and space be stopped?”

5          Enemy Within the Skull [Cap Kennedy #4] (1974) - novel by E. C. Tubb [as by Gregory Kern]

“FREE ACTING TERRAN ENVOY F.A.T.E. Alien scientists had learned how to release the ravening beast-instincts buried in the recesses of the human brain from the far distant past. Now they were willing to sell their knowledge to the highest bidder in exchange for an alliance against Terra. And they had many willing to bargain with them. Captain Kennedy, the top man of the Free Acting Terran Envoys - FATE - was assigned to stop this terrifying menace. But he knew immediately that his greatest danger lay within himself - and that by challenging the alien scientists he could turn himself and his friends into beasts beyond imagining!”

5          Jewel of Jarhen [Cap Kennedy #5] (1974) - novel by E. C. Tubb [as by Gregory Kern]

“FREE ACTING TERRAN ENVOY F.A.T.E. Captain Kennedy lay between life and death after his mind had been hurled a million years into the past. To break the spell of the Jewel of Jarhen which held the Captain in its thrall, three members of FATE had to pit all their formidable skills against a terrible enemy. The danger to Captain Kennedy's life was matched by the peril to an entire world. It was an inexorable race against time for the FATE team as they tried to break the mystery of the pre-galactic artifact on which all the horror hinged.”

5          Seetee Alert! [Cap Kennedy #6] (1974) - novel by E. C. Tubb [as by Gregory Kern]

“Contra-terrene matter--seetee as the astronauts call it--is the most dangerous substance in the universe. Reversely charged, when brought into contact with even the most stable of normal material, it will instantly disintegrate with a 100% energy diffusion. So when Cap Kennedy’s scout vessel, Mordain, brushed against a cloud of seetee dust that was being gathered and moved by unknown ships, it was not only a narrow escape for Cap and his friends but signaled an emergency of the highest urgency. Because such a swarm could cause the destruction of an entire solar system--and ther was reason to suspect that its ultimate target was our sun and all its planets--including particularly the Earth.”

To Prospective Buyers….

Please see my profile ‘page’ for important announcements (if any). Thank you.

This update is dated 06 October 2023.

Checkout Instructions.

Note 1:

Royal Mail is used for delivery and all postage rates shown (on this listing) are based on their increase in rates as of 02 October 2023.

UK rates should be accurate for the item(s) advertised (on this listing), including the cost for loss or damage of the item(s). Standard compensation for items posted within the UK is only up to £20…Note that this covers the Purchase Price and not what the Buyer thinks the item might be worth! Postage quoted when multiple items are purchased will be calculated based on the weight and value of the ‘bundle’ (please also see Note 2 below). For multiples, I will wait and combine them when you have finished ‘shopping’ (see Note 3 for more information). Simply add them to the basket and then request an invoice.

All Customers please note:

v  In February 2021 a valuable hardcover was damaged in the post (the dustjacket was torn by a few inches, thus de-valuing the item) and, needless to say perhaps, the customer was not too well pleased. The item was insured for up to £1000 and I raised a claim for £250, the cost of a professional repair. Photographs were provided as part of the claim process (before and after the damage), however this was to no avail. Royal Mail would not pay for the damages because the packaging was not kept by the customer. Although this has only happened to me a couple of times, in all the years I have been selling my collection, the message is absolutely clear. If you receive an item that looks damaged, please photograph it immediately before opening. Then open the package carefully and keep it [the packaging] to one side. If the contents are intact and as described on the listing then all is well. If however there is damage to the item then please [also] take pictures of that. Contact me immediately and I will take it from there (i.e. raise a claim) once you have provided the relevant evidence. Put the item and its packaging safely to one side for further examination as appropriate.

v  On multiple (combined) purchases please, please use the Shopping Basket and request an invoice….do NOT pay at checkout. I can then apply the correct Postage & Packing (P&P) amounts to the invoice. In fact, if in any doubt that the P&P is not correct for your situation please request an invoice. It saves a lot of time and trouble for both of us!

International Customers please note:

Please note that I will post worldwide. However, I am only able to show 4 International rates (Royal Mail Tracked) on my listings and cannot cater for every weight, postage method and eventuality. They are generally as follows:

> Europe - is now (from April 2022) split into 3 Zones and the highest priced Zone is shown on every listing

> World Zone 1 - Asia, Africa, North & South America (excl. USA)

> World Zone 2 - Oceania (incl. Singapore)

> World Zone 3 - USA

Therefore, please ask for an invoice (also see Note 2).

Standard compensation for items posted internationally is only up to £50…Note that this covers the Purchase Price and not what the Buyer thinks the item might be worth! Any purchase cost greater than this will incur the additional ‘insurance’ cost.

If you have any questions at all, please contact me and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thank you very much.

Note 2:

As may be appreciated some of the items I am selling are very scarce, because of their age or because they are Limited and/or Signed Editions, etc., and many are also quite valuable/costly. As a Private Seller I am unable to refund the cost of any loss or damage out of my own pocket; thus the Postage quoted always includes the compensation charges (as listed by the courier).

However, I do appreciate that the cost of postage is high (and getting more costly as time goes by!) and will send items by Standard Post (UK) or International Standard if requested. BUT…I will ask that the Buyer sends me written confirmation that they will not claim from me in the event of loss or damage. Thank you for your understanding on this point.

If you have any questions on the above, or anything to do with my listings, please contact me. I am generally available Monday through Friday and will answer soonest.

Note 3: Yes, I will combine items to optimise postage costs.

I am always happy to do multiple purchases with combined postage. Please follow these steps; otherwise you will end up paying the P&P on all items:

> Click on the 'Add to basket' button and not the 'Buy it now'. A separate ‘window’ will pop up after each selection. Click on “See all” at the foot of the window to return to listings and continue shopping.

> On completing your selections click on 'Go to basket', do not use the 'Checkout n items' - this is important. You are now on a window which allows you to review all items (with the total amounts), remove items or even continue shopping again.

> Finally, do not use the “Go to checkout” button or you will end up paying the entire bill. At the top of the list of items you should find “Request total”, click on that and wait for me to send you an invoice with the correct P&P amount (this will include the appropriate loss or damage cover for the shipment). As far as I am aware this will also work for a single item and this is where you would ask for an invoice with P&P for your particular situation (country, cover, etc.).

The important thing is to communicate your intentions so we can agree on the protocol for your specific situation (always within the site rules abiding at the time). I have various sizes of cardboard and mail-lite envelopes, a couple of different size of cardboard boxes, etc.; along with various and many packing materials!!

General: Please know that I am a private seller listing my book collection from over 60 years and of many thousands of items. The books and magazines are the genuine article as described in the listings and I try to be as detailed as I can about the condition of each item (I err on the side of caution). If you have any questions on the above, or anything to do with my listings, please contact me. I am generally available Monday through Friday and will answer honestly and to the best of my ability.

Thank you for your attention and happy browsing.
