Description: This antique city view or map originates from Sebastian Munster's 'Cosmographia, Beschreibung aller Lender'. These prints are from the 1592 German edition, published in Basel by Henrichum Petri (Heinrich Petri).
Artists and Engravers: The author of this work is Sebastian Munster, a German cartographer, cosmographer and Christian scholar. He is best known for Cosmographia, the earliest German description of the world (in 6 parts. He was also the author of Horologiographia, Organum Uranicum and Rudimenta Mathematica. The woodcuts in this publication were made by a group of artists, among which Hans Holbein, Conrad Schnitt, David Kandel and Hans Rudolf Manuel Deutsch.

Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. Small stains in the top margin. A few small stains in the lower edge of the image. Ghosting from text on rear. General age-related toning and light staining from handling as visible on image. Small tear middle fold bottom and top margin, backed with contemporary paper and acid free archival tape. Lower margin reinforced on rear. Please study scan carefully. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
