Markel (MEP) was founded by Joseph Markel in the early 1920s. Based in Rochester, New York, this family owned business manufactured and distributed electric lighting fixtures from 1920 to the late 1950s. Known for their elegant, graceful, and trend setting designs, Markel played a important role in the Art Deco lighting period.

Here is a set of 6 of crisp white frosted glass slip shade machine age sconces. This style is very popular and more on the masculine side of decor. Nickel with gold accents. The frames are a painted cast iron mixed metal. The glass will insert with the top tabs first then fit nicely and snug once slipped into the bottom tabs. The sconces are from the 1930s era and have been restored, new wiring and switches along with a medium base socket.

The Art Deco lighting period is always a pleasure to restore. The lines and details of these sconces are beautifully designed. Many were sold back in the day, but fewer and fewer remain. Nothing compares to them in the current market. Reproduction glass is available but there is something missing in the make up of the materials. Not to say they are bad.

The sconces have been thoughtfully and loving cleaned, painted and rewired.

They are not cheaply made and should last another 100 years.

Please see the pictures, especially the glass condition which is exceptional with this set.

The measurements are in the pictures. The sconces have been sealed and can be used in high humidity areas. Perfect for theater lights and foyer or hall, even bathroom, bedroom.

Everything is solidly and carefully packed. Also insured.
