In 1941 the mixed fleet of aircraft carriers of the Imperial Japanese Navy was the largest of its kind in the world. One of his most controversial operations was the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, which marked the beginning of the Pacific War against the United States. The master of the main ship (flagship) of the fleet had the general command and, due to his responsibilities, he could be promoted to the rank of lieutenant or placed in the position traditionally assigned to the lieutenants. His summer uniform consisted of a white beret, a white cap with a black cornice, a sword, white trousers and white shoes.
