Artists and Engravers: Made by 'C.E. Collin' after 'Depot de la Marine'. Depot des Cartes et Plans de la Marine (1720 - present), often called the Depot de Marine, was a French hydrographic mapping organization founded in 1720. Much like the U.S. Coast Survey, the British Admiralty, and the Spanish Deposito Hydrografico, the Depot was initiated as a storehouse and distribution center of existing nautical and marine charts. Eventually the Depot initiated its on mapping activities in an attempt to improve and expand upon existing material. Some of the well known hydrograhers / cartographers in the development of Depot were Jacques Nicholas Bellin and Riobert Bonne.

Subject: 2 Antique prints, titled: ''Plan de la Rade de Cherbourg […].'' - A map in two sheets of the harbour of Cherbourg with its distinct naval fortifications. With detailed depth soundings, indications of coastal fortifications and villages, and geographical details inland.
Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold in both sheets, as issued. Some offsetting where the image was folded on itself. Paper separation in the right edge of the middle fold of the left sheet. Some soiling and small stains in the margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
Size (in cm): The overall size is ca. 66.6 x 98.2 cm. The image size is ca. 60.9 x 93.6 cm.
Size (in inch): The overall size is ca. 26.2 x 38.7 inch. The image size is ca. 24 x 36.9 inch.
