Hard to Start

The main function of glow plugs is to assist with starting theengine. If your plugs are failing or faulty may result in hard or slowstarting, especially on cold mornings.

Faulty glow plugs will affect combustion causing misfires. Asengine heats up it will start a short time.

Puffs of Smoke on Startup can Indicate Bad Glow Plugs

Look for black or white puffs of smoke on startup, can bebecause of excess or unburnt fuel as it exits the tail pipe. Once the engine isrunning, the fuel will begin burning normally with no obvious smoke.

NOTE: Not all faulty symptoms mean it's your glow plugs

     Areas ofissues attributed to faulty or defective glow plugs but are caused by otherdiesel components. Reduced acceleration or power, the job of the glowplugs is to ignite the combustion chamber and are only in use for secondsduring this start up process.
