Created by George W. Trendle and Fran Stiker for an American Radio Program in the 1930s, the Green Hornet is Britt Reid, a newspaper publisher by day who fights crime as a masked crime fighter at night.   Reid is usually accompanied by his similarly masked Asian manservant Kato, and is equipped with high technology weapons and accessories including a special car called "Black Beauty."  The Green Hornet premiered on Radio from 1936 and continue until 1952.  In between there were several film serials including a 13 episode series starting Gordon Jones as Britt Reid and Keye Luke as Kato.   Although the Green Hornet actually predates DC Comic's Batman by four years, its popularity can largely be attributed to the success of the Batman Franchise, which inspired ABC executives to create the series starring Van Williams as Reid and Bruce Lee as Kato.   Although the series was cancelled during the second season, it has since become a cult phenomenon due largely to Lee's later popularity and untimely death.   The series was later edited into two movies, "The Green Hornet," and "Fury of the Dragon."  At least three attempts to make a feature film based on "The Green Hornet" have failed.
