Richard Barton or, The Wounded Bird by Mrs Charles Bray
Publisher: S.W.
Partridge & Co, undated, but 1873. A volume in the Tiny Library
series, which consisted of improving stories for children, largely
intended to terrify them into good behaviour it would appear, though this story is more positive, concentrating on kindness to animals. Tiny size,
11cm tall, a bit over 4.25 inches, 64 pages, plus 16pp publisher's
catalogue. Bound in red cloth with titles in gilt on the top
board, decorations in gilt and black, with a little laid-on floral
illustration. Frontispiece, 7 full-page engravings and an engraved tailpiece. Very good condition. The book has a slight lean, and a few
light marks, and a short closed tear to a leaf, mainly clean and bright.
