This is an account of the history of the J.V.P from its inception until its liquidation in 1989 which all peace-loving citizens of this country hope will terminate the reign of violence that prevailed throughout the Sinhala areas of the country for the last three years. The first three Parts of this book is a reprint of Insurgency- 1971 which dealt with the J.V.P insurrection of April 1971. No comments are necessary in regard to this part of the history of the J.V.P which has been exhaustively reviewed in the media and elsewhere. For the benefit of the new reader however I have appended the prefaces to the three editions of Insurgency-1971 which provides a fairly comprehensive record of its contents.

The fourth part of this book deals with the more serious J.V.P insurrection from 1987 to 1989.
