This Thangka depicts Buddha Bhaisajyaguru sitting cross-legged on a lotus throne. He is known as the master of remedies or Medicine Buddha. The most distinctive feature of Bhaisajyaguru is his deep blue colour tone of the lapis lazuli. This beautiful stone symbolises rarity and purity - and said to have curative or strengthening effect to those who wear it.

In his right hand he holds a myrobalan branch, an important compound of several Tibetan medicines. In his left hand a bowl containing three forms of a nectar to cure disease, counteract ageing and illuminate the mind. Meditating in front of the Medicine Buddha Thangka is said to help to alleviate physical and mental stress, increase healing powers in oneself and als overcome spiritual sickness.
