Der Huia oder Lappenhopf (Heteralocha acutirostris) gehörte zu den nur auf Neuseeland verbreiteten Lappenvögeln und gilt seit 1907 als ausgestorben. Insbesondere der Geschlechtsdimorphismus war bei dieser Art aufgrund der Schnabelformen stark ausgeprägt.
Zudem zählen die Schwanzfedern zu wertvollen Artefakten und sind die teuersten, jemals verkaufen Federn die in einer Auktion in Neuseeland NZ8400$ eingebracht haben.
Farbabweichungen sind blitzlichtbedingt möglich.

Hello, in this Auction you have the Chance to purchase an incredibly rare, valuable and hard to find Tailfeather of the already extinct Wattlebird "Huia", according to the antique Label, which is attached to the Feather and therefore Part of the Sale.
All Feathers were Part of an old Estate.
Unfortunately, not much else can be said about the Origin, as these are the remaining Exhibits from a huge historical Collection.

The Huia [Heteralocha acutirostris] is an extinct Species of New Zealand Wattlebird, endemic to the North Island of New Zealand. The last confirmed Sighting of a Huia was in 1907.
It was remarkable for having the most pronounced sexual Dimorphism in Bill Shape of any known Bird Species in the World. The female's Beak was long, thin and arched downward, while the male's was short and stout, like that of a Crow.
Tail Feathers of the extinct Huia are very rare and have long since become a Collectors' Item and historical Piece.
In June 2010, a single Huia Tail Feather sold at Auction in Auckland for NZ$8,400, making it the most expensive Feather ever sold.
