IMPORTANT NOTES ON BICYCLE STEM FITTING:
We only sell quill stems in 1" (this is the common standard fitting in the UK and internationally for all bikes with threaded forks and this is unchanged since the 1960's and before). These stems are not for use with bolt-on (A-head) non-threaded steerers.

The 1" refers to the outer diameter of the fork steerer. It does NOT refer to the diameter of the quill which is give or take a fraction = 22.2mm.

The 25.4mm referenced in the sale is the clamp size that fits a 25.4mm handlebar ONLY.

The bicycle world has always mixed imperial and metric in this way since bikes were invented!

The only other common (and non-BMX) sizes for quill stems (and relatively rare) are the French (25mm = 22.0mm quill diameter) and the oversize which uses a 1 1/8" steerer (1" or 25.4mm quill) and was generally found only on MTBs for a short time around the late 80's/early 90's. There were also some 1 1/4" stems on some early MTBs - very rare too.
