Stunning and rare offering here. SS Nitta Maru was a passenger steamer out of Japan. It was turned into a WW II vessel for the Japanese after 1942. This fan shaped menu is from the day May 25, 1940 and shows the offering for an Aloha dinner, as well as a pagoda scene painted on cream colored paper. The opposite side shows some delicate birds painted in black ink. This item was given to me by a person who actually on this ship on the day listed. The box shown in the photos may or may not be the original box or just a box the original owner used for storage. Minor condition issue with some blurry ink on the menu. This is an unusual find, as many of the similar menus listed from vessels of this time period are not fan shaped. Sold as is. Shipped via USPS or will ship internationally.
