Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies Ltd. Ipswich
Apprentices Journal
1956-1960
This is the Apprentices Journal of G.F.D. Wakeham, officially issued by the company and kept diligently by Mr Wakeham. It contains handwrittten details of his work in all the various departments of the company, illustrated with his own drawings and diagrams, and with various pieces of ephemera, instructional leaflets and advertising materials. Ransomes was an engineering company, manufacturing ploughs and other agricultural implements, as well as lawnmowers. The journal is a fascinating historical record of the functioning of a lost company in the 20th century. It is bound in half leather and is completely filled with notes. There are also a few pieces of personal ephemera from Mr Wakeham's later life loosely included. 24 cm, 9.5 inches, tall, 165 numbered pages followed by a few un-numbered.
