GERMANY; Early bird's-eye view of Wurzburg and surrounding countryside illustrating the famous Franken vineyard region. The view is dominated by the Fortress Marienberg that sits high on a hill on the opposite side of the Main River. The woodcut is decorated with two coats of arms. Title on verso with woodcut of a castle and German text. Pages numbers 1118-1119 to upper corners. Sebastian Munster, taken from Munster's Cosmographia. Late 16th century c1580-1590. Woodblock map [original]. Measuring; 43.3cm x 35.5cm. Fold to the century, shirt closed tear to the lower blank margin, finger marks to the lower right, light browning, tear to the fold [does not show when laying flat].
