Description
The history of Saki-ori dates back to the mid-Edo period in the Tohoku region. During this time, cotton and silk used for clothing were expensive, and cloth itself was considered precious in the cold region. This circumstance led to the development of a technique in which used cloth was repurposed into new fabric instead of being discarded.

This marked the beginning of Saki-ori.

During the Edo period, old kotatsu quilts, kimonos, and yukata were often cut and used as weft. The joy of Saki-ori lies in the freedom to utilize old fabrics and clothes found at home, resulting in unique and original works.

T-shirts that are no longer worn, kimonos, and sheets and covers – rather than disposing of them as they are, cutting them into thin strips and weaving them into thread through Saki-ori can breathe new life into these fabrics.

This book features over 30 instructions for making tote bags, shoulder bags, pouches, and more, each showcasing various shapes and expressions.

Why not revive cherished fabric memories, transforming them into bags that you'll want to cherish and use again?
