Description
Rare early 1900th M.S.A. era manufacture Marble's Special Hunting Knife hunter with stag handle scales and hard-to-find original tubular leather sheath. This rare early Marble's knife is used, but it is in very good overall condition, considering the age. Not a common type to begin with, Special Hunting Knife hunters are exceedingly hard to find these days, especially with the original sheath included. This model was made is small quantities from 1904 to 1914; all were hand-finished at the Marble's factory in Gladstone, Michigan. In spite of the great design and solid quality, the "Special" was loosing out in sales to the ever-popular Woodcraft hunter-skinner; the Special was discontinued in 1914.
The knife is about 9-1/4" / 23.5 cm overall; the blade is about 4-3/4" / 12 cm; vintage M.S.A. (Marble's Safety Axe) logo stamp on ricasso is barely visible with most letters now polished away. Solid full-tang construction; the blade has been harshly re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. Genuine European stag handle scales with brass pins; stag slabs had turned beautiful amber-yellow over time. The handle is tight with no play; no cracks or chips. Original tubular leather sheath with interior tip protector is in great shape, considering the age. The leather is sift and supple still; one cut at the throat is noted for accuracy. Don't miss your chance to add this attractive antique Marble's hunter to your collection!
The knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it in 100% original "as is" condition. These are the actual photos. Buyers must be over 18 years of age.
