Product Description

The F4U-5, which was completely modernized and produced after World War II, is the culmination of the F4U Corsair series, and it was the fastest reciprocating fighter in the Navy at that time, exceeding the maximum speed of F8F-2.
The engine mounting position has moved forward and the cowling itself has slightly increased in size, so the length of the nose has been enhanced.
Also, the vaporizer air intake on the bottom of the nose was divided into two parts, so the bottom side of the left and right side became a swollen diaper type front shape, which became a big feature of F4U-5. The
F4U-5N is a Reciprocating Single-Seat Night Fighter. The aircraft is basically the same as the F4U-5, and the biggest difference is the radar equipped on the right wing. Since the radio equipment is double, an auxiliary antenna is attached to the rear of the vertical tail wing, and an automatic control device is provided to reduce the burden on the pilot. The exhaust pipe is a flame-retardant type to secure the visibility of the pilot during night flight, and a flameproof plate is installed at the top of the rear.

F4U-5NL was equipped with a deicing rubber boot on the front edge of each wing, and a water methanol liquid jet deicing device was attached to the front edge of the propeller and windshield. It was a cold district specification machine for severe North Korea. The number of production machines was 214 for F4U-5N and 101 for F4U-5NL.
3rd Hybrid Squadron D Squad Captain Guy P. Bodelon Lt.Guy P.Bordelon of VC-3 Det.D shot down five aircraft with F4U-5NBu.No124453 between June 29 and July 17, 1953, and he was the only one who received the honor of Triple Threat Ace, the ace of night fighters in the Korean War, the ace of reciprocating planes, and the ace of the Navy. Captain
Bodelon made 35 sorties on the F4U-5N before leaving the plane, but shortly after that the Air Force pilot crashed F4U-5NBu.No124453. The F4U-5NBu.No124453 had five shot-down marks, but in the box art, it was drawn at the time of two shot-down.
